MAIA on the Road to Automechanika MAHA’s Autonomous Inspection Assistant Demonstrates Its Capabilities on a Dedicated Roadshow

From a vehicle assessment specialist and a performance tuning expert to the DTM racetrack: MAIA, MAHA’s autonomous inspection assistant, is proving its capabilities in realworld applications with selected partners and is now heading to Automechanika Frankfurt 2026.

Haldenwang, 22 July 2026. What will the workshop of the future look like? This is a question the employees at MAHA in Haldenwang ask themselves every day as they develop innovative solutions with passion and ingenuity. “MAIA will make it easier to capture vehicle data and help workshops operate more efficiently,” explains CEO Dr Peter Geigle during an interview with roadshow host Tobias Witton on the first day of filming. The vision of the “inventor”, as Dr Geigle describes himself, is taking shape with the MAIA functional prototype. The autonomous inspection assistant has successfully completed practical testing with selected partners. The insights gained and the requirements identified during the pilot phase have formed the basis of the ongoing series development since mid-2026.

MAIA autonomously navigates around a stationary vehicle indoors, documenting its condition during a complete vehicle scan. In the process, it records a wide range of relevant vehicle data as well as potential damage. Because all images are captured while the vehicle is stationary, camera distance and viewing angles remain controlled, ensuring highly reproducible results. The initial scope of the system focuses on the Surface Check with damage detection and flexible integration into existing customer systems. The objective is not automation for its own sake, but a workshop process that is faster, more transparent and more efficient. 

Following the first stop of the roadshow at its birthplace in Haldenwang, MAIA demonstrated its capabilities at vehicle assessment specialist Schorer + Wolf in Kempten. There, MAIA autono-mously circled a BMW X4 positioned in a designated inspection area, creating a comprehensive digital record of the vehicle’s condition for damage assessment and condition evaluation. The collected data not only identifies dents but also provides valuable tyrerelated information. “The greatest advantage I see is MAIA’s compact design. Unlike large, stationary scanning systems, it can move freely around a vehicle regardless of the workshop layout. I also see major strengths in its efficiency and speed. Following hailstorms, we are sometimes faced with an enormous number of vehicles that need to be inspected,” explains project developer Max Böck.

MAIA reduces unproductive workshop time
MAIA is currently being tested at the BMW Airport Service. According to Lilian Volk, Digitalisation Expert at BMW Munich, MAIA can help strengthen customer relationships: “MAIA’s analysis gives our employees more time to focus on meaningful conversations with customers.” Andre Glanz from workshop planning specialist cotedo also highlights the timesaving potential: “Customers can be informed about optimisation opportunities while still on site based on MAIA’s objective and reliable data. At the same time, technicians can focus entirely on the repair itself. This reduces communication effort and minimises unproductive time in the workshop.”

Efficiency also plays a key role at renowned vehicle tuning specialist ABT Sportsline. Whether enhancing passenger cars or fine-tuning DTM race cars, the company relies on accurate and dependable data. MAIA’s objective inspection of stationary vehicles provides exactly this reliable data foundation. As part of the video roadshow, MAIA visits Daniel Abt (CCO) at ABT Sportsline’s headquarters in Kempten and Thomas Biermaier (CEO) at the Norisring in Nuremberg.

“When performance matters, the most important work happens in the workshop or in the pit before the race even begins. We constantly measure, analyse and optimise. In the end, even the smallest deviations can make the decisive difference,” says Biermaier, who considers MAIA an important innovation in vehicle analysis.
Following its stops in workshops, dealerships and motorsport, MAIA’s roadshow continues to Automechanika Frankfurt 2026. During daily live demonstrations, MAHA will showcase how the au-tonomous inspection assistant independently captures vehicle data and supports a wide range of workshop processes – from vehicle condition assessments using Surface Check and Tyre Check through to Wheel Alignment Check.
